🏞️ Weekend Getaway to Mount Gambier, SA — Blue Lake, Caves & Cozy Stay at The Barn

🌊 Weekend Escape to Mount Gambier, SA — A Hidden Gem Between Adelaide & Melbourne

If you’re looking for a quick weekend getaway filled with natural beauty, cozy accommodation, and delicious coffee, Mount Gambier in South Australia is the perfect spot. We spent a short but wonderful weekend exploring its famous sights, and it truly felt like a little escape from the city life of Melbourne.

🏨 Stay: The Barn Accommodation

We stayed at The Barn Accommodation, and it was absolutely beautiful!
The property is surrounded by peaceful greenery, and the rooms were spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The spa was the highlight — relaxing and refreshing after a day of exploring.
The staff were genuinely kind and helpful, making our stay even more enjoyable. It’s definitely a place I’d love to return to.

📍 What We Did in Mount Gambier

We reached Mount Gambier on Friday evening and spent the Saturday exploring its stunning attractions before heading back to Melbourne on Sunday.

Here are the highlights of our trip:

💙 1. Blue Lake

Mount Gambier’s most iconic attraction! The lake changes colour with the seasons — a vibrant, mesmerising blue that looks straight out of a postcard. A must-visit for every traveler.

🕳️ 2. Umpherston Sinkhole

Also known as the Sunken Garden, this place is simply magical. Beautifully maintained gardens inside a sinkhole — perfect for peaceful walks and some amazing photos!

🪨 3. Tantanoola Caves

A short drive from Mount Gambier, this cave is one of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. The entry fee was $17 for adults and $9.50 for children, and it was totally worth it. The formations inside are stunning and well-lit for photography.

☕ Food & Coffee Stops

Our favourite café was Cafe Metro — they served the best coffee and cakes! The cozy atmosphere made it a great spot to relax and refuel between sightseeing.

💭 Final Thoughts

Mount Gambier was the perfect weekend getaway — a mix of natural wonders, relaxing accommodation, and great food. If you’re planning a short road trip from Melbourne or Adelaide, this charming town should definitely be on your list!
